I’ve been very busy over Christmas and New Year, due to the usual things relating to the run up to Christmas and then New Year and then going away for a couple of weeks. The weather has been odd here and has only just started to get nice and hot now that I’m back home again! 🙁 Which didn’t help a holiday that was supposed to be able longing around on the beach that much.
That said I have been going swimming on Cheltenham Beach a lot over the last few days due to the high temperatures and humidity here. (At least I can’t complain about having a nice beach near my home!)
I am actually pissed off that Chris Cairns seems to have gotten off completely now that he was found not guilty in his last trial and that man suing him has decided to drop his case against Cairns >:( The fact that he is a self absorbed narcissistic douche bag still counts for something here in New Zealand at least.
Next week in Wellington: In theory I’ll be in Wellington next week from the Tuesday to the Sunday morning – and should be back home sometime the Sunday afternoon… In theory because the weather’s horrible in the lower North Island and in the South Island at the moment, so I am worried about the flights in and out of Wellington next week 🙁 Though I had heard that the bad weather is moving up the North Island, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to fly out of Auckland and into Wellington without any problems on the Tuesday, and then the other way round on the Sunday again.
I’ve already said that I’m going on this trip because of the WW1 stuff at the Auckland Museum making me want to see the Sir Peter Jackson Anzac displays in Wellington, which admittedly I think will be a lot better than the Auckland ones. Also my friend – the one who has just bought a new house in Wellington – is having her house warming next Saturday evening and I want to be in Wellington for that too.
I’ve also arranged with her to meet up for lunch and/or dinner at least once in the days I will be Wellington, I also have a couple of other old friends I want to meet up with and one of my mother’s cousins lives in Wellington, so I will need to arrange to see her too. It’s going to be interesting to see how Wellington has changed since the last time I was there!
For the first time in ages I had absolutely nothing planned to do today and I’m not entirely sure I liked it. I usually have 2 or 3 things arranged, planned or go to every day. Things like having morning/afternoon tea and/or lunch/dinner out, there’s usually something on I can go and see or do and it does feel a touch odd having the whole day free! Even if I go to something like the Myers Park Centenary on Sunday afternoon I usually have somewhere to go and someone to meet.
I do want to go to see the World of Wearable Arts display at the Auckland Museum, but I know a few people who also want to go and I prefer going to these sorts of things with someone as I have it more enjoyable going with at least one other person, and it’s certain a lot more eating out with other people than by myself! 🙂 I know the Auckland Art Gallery will have some new exhibits up soon, (assuming they don’t already, but they were still putting them up last week to replace the Light Show that finished within the last few weeks). I don’t actually mind going to the Art Gallery exhibits by myself and there are a few people I know who work in the city who I can easily arrange to meet for lunch given enough warning.
I did end up watching 2 more episodes of the 2nd season of “The Killing”, because I’m desperate to know who the killer is but after 2 episodes I was thoroughly tired of watching TV 🙁 I’ve changed my bed and done 2 loads of washing, including bringing it in and putting it away as the weather is hot and fair here at the moment. I went to the supermarket first thing this morning and have my shopping thoroughly under control at the moment. I’ve started making dinner and will have enough left overs I can freeze.
I’ve been talked into going to a number of the different events for the Auckland Anniversary Weekend in the central city -which starts tomorrow. My mother is keen to go to the seafood cooking event one of the days it’s on and I’ve agreed to go with her. At the rate everything is going it’ll be on Sunday so we can stay in the city and watch the fireworks that night! At least we don’t have to hang around to midnight to see it.Given that it’s Auckland’s 175th Anniversary, there are quite a few Auckland Anniversary Weekend events on this year compared to normal, where the only I can really remember happening most years are the regattas on the gulf. (I’m sure there’s usually tons of other things on but I never go to them so…)
The weather is great here, so we shouldn’t have any problems on that end for the whole weekend 🙂 It’s also getting slightly cooler and a lot less humid, making it physically pleasant to go outside now.
I’ve also started watching the first season of “The Killing”, which is actually rather good and I’m pleased I’ve started it. I am pleased I went to check the series online as I’ve found out that it pulls a “Twin peaks” and takes the first two seasons to solve the case introduced in the first episode, which would have annoyed me no end if I had gotten to the end of the first season only to find this out!
I have everything sorted out for new year’s eve tomorrow now. I will be going to a party at a friend’s place, rather than going out to the city or anything like that. Unfortunately, if the weather is bad – it’s supposed to raining tomorrow evening – it won’t be much point making the effort to see the annual fireworks this year 🙁 Given that the only year the fireworks were particularly good was the one were Kim Dotcom paid to have a larger than usual fireworks display put on. (It was the one were they arranged to have those 2 barges out in the harbor and had fireworks go off from those rather than just from the Sky Tower).
It would be different if there was a big fireworks display and I am sad that I’ll miss it this year, but realistically speaking the fireworks display will be exactly the same as most of the previous years. Meaning I won’t be missing anything I haven’t already seen before! I have decided to catch a taxi to and from my friends place rather than trying to drive myself for a couple of reasons. I’m particularly familiar with the drive to his place and would rather not try it at night time, it also means that I can drink what ever I want to and not have to worry about driving home again! 🙂
I am actually rather relieved that the weather is good today, as the weather report for today last week was for rain and thunder & lightening! 🙂 So the Franklin Road Lights are on tonight, dinner as well but we were always going to be going out for dinner tonight no matter what the weather was like.
My mother is worried about the rain traveling down the South Island this week though, as she’s going away for 5 days/4 nights later on this week and doesn’t particularly want it raining while she’s down there.
We are currently planning on doing the whole dinner in Ponsonby and the going to see the Christmas lights on Franklin Road afterwards tomorrow night… Unfortunately the weather is bad yesterday evening and most of today so far, so I’m a bit worried about the weather tomorrow. If it’s raining there won’t be much point trying to go see the lights, especially if we were going to walk rather drive passed them… But it might give us the excuse to go and see them twice – driving passes tomorrow night and then walk passed them again later on in the week when it isn’t raining! 🙂
