I’ve just been sent the url for A Night in the Machine, which is the website for the Gurps based role playing a group I belong to is currently playing! I think we’re going to have to start writing up play logs for our game sessions, though I do expect being told to write them up myself if I do bring it… 🙂
That said I do think the site does need a lot of new material as it’s currently very light on the ground, especially given how long we’ve been working on material for it. An easy section to expand will be the Skills page given that we’ve done the least amount of work on that. (The various Essays actually took a lot longer than we were expecting to come up with and they’re still too short and light on the ground 🙁 ).
At least it’s going to be something interesting to work on over the next few months or so! 🙂
After reading an AskReddit post about what was supposed to be the next big thing but ended up becoming a flop I do feel sad that someone posted about Voat. I agree that Voat has gone downhill fast since the people have jumped ship and started the new version of fatpeoplehate there. Recently I’ve noticed posts making the front page of Voat from other hate groups – Niggers in particular, which is the replacement Voat group for “Coon Town” a racist part of Reddit that was among the subreddits deleted along with fatpeoplehate…
Niggers is described as being a group about:
“Race realism, pragmatism, and a sense of agency: the foundation of a proper society that lacks the negro plague. Overall we aim to achieve one thing, a law that mandates non-violent segregation between the races. Whites have their own land, and the niggers get to live with each other.”
Which is why their original group “Coon Town” was banned by Reddit in the first place and gives you an picture of what kinds of people fatpeoplehate is now bringing to Voat 🙁 I do really think that Voat is being destroyed by hate groups and/or trolls. (I can actually picture there being a number of trolls there solely because they enjoy making trouble). Though I do think it’s pretty much at the point that if Voat survives it’s going to be solely due to the fact that they are more than willing to host and take money from people who hate a particular sub group and not just fat people but people who are racist towards Blacks like is being shown by Niggers, and I assume it’s going going to spread towards people who hate men, women, other racial groups, people who are LGBT in anyway shape or form, or anything pretty much given how bad how people can be….
I’ve been working on my parts of the Role Playing Game we’re writing up to put online, which has been rather nice to have something interesting I can do at home! I’m still not quite 100% over the flu and I’ve been getting tired a lot more quickly than I’d like. On Saturday evening I was out with friends and I ended up excusing myself and going home just before 9pm! Normally if we’re going out on a Friday or Saturday with dinner at a restaurant somewhere and something else on top of that – it depends on what’s on but it’s usually a live show of some sort or a movie or finding a quietish corner in in bar/pub somewhere and sitting around talking… At least we’d already finished dinner and hadn’t actually planned on doing anything else in the way of a show.
I’m well and truly well enough now to be bored senseless at home, so it’s really nice to have something I need to think about and work on! It is taking me longer than I remember essays and assignments from school or University to take, because I’m constantly going back and checking what I’ve written a few days later only to find them full of mistakes and badly written passages, which I have to correct. Plus we’re still in the middle of debates on how we’re going to actually create the layout – which has changed a couple of times already.
I’m actually starting to feel a lot better by now, I’m definitely getting over the flu I talked about here previously. I went down to the local shops to go to the supermarket and the local fruit & vege shop for the first time in ages – I had been ordering a lot of stuff I’d normally get from these places online rather than trying to go out and get them myself. Which was nice, as I don’t like ordering fresh fruit pr vegetables online unless I really have to – I like being able to pick them out myself rather being forced into taking what ever someone else randomly grabs while filling my order for me.
It mostly isn’t a problem, but short of giving them a massive list of instructions – like I want bananas that are still slightly green for starters. I also like looking at specials too, today I ended up getting a punnet of strawberries from the fruit & vege shop despite it being the middle of winter here so they’re not as nice as they would be in summer simply because I saw them and just wanted them. Given the fact that I haven’t been eating much over the last few weeks, I wasn’t going to say “No” to a punnet of strawberries. (They’re actually not that bad, no were near as nice as they would be in summer, but still good for the most part).
Not much is happening this weekend, as I don’t think I’ll be up for anything much. Plus I’d much rather let myself get 100% better so that I can enjoy things when I do get out and do things. I am upset that I’m missing the film festival that is happening at the moment 🙁 In particular, because I know that a few friends are going to various films in it ad normally I’d be going them to see some of the films at least 🙁
I’m currently getting the flu, which is less than fun 🙁 It does mean that I’m not exactly in the mood for writing stuff on this blog for the time being.
A group of us have decided to start playing an role playing game in an old universe we used to play in together years and years ago. (Seriously it was well over 10 years ago – getting on to 15 years? – before Gerry had moved down to Wellington and then back to Auckland again). It was set in a Universe we made up and was based on the Gurps system. It’ll be interesting to start playing in a game again, as I really haven’t played in one properly in years – as one with an on going campaign that should last for months or even years if it works well rather than games that last one session only.
As I understand it the GM is planning on re-working the Universe itself and updating it somewhat, so it won’t be quite the same game we used to play before, but that will just make it more interesting I think. There is also a lot of elbow room to set the game in different times and/or places meaning it could still be set in the same universe that we played in previous but it would be a dramatically different game for us.
I’m rather pleased to have a set game to play every week – it’s going to be every Sunday afternoon and evening, and we’ll be getting something in for dinner during the game. We always used to get pizza delivered, but we could easily do other types of food even if it meant that one of us had to go and get it. (I’ll have to ask if there are any restaurants that do good take away near them). Or even do a pot luck type meal if people get sick of having takeaways every time.
I’m definitely looking forward to it, though our GM was saying that it’ll take him a few months to get everything sorted out and set up to his satisfaction so that we can actually start playing it!
Next week in Wellington: In theory I’ll be in Wellington next week from the Tuesday to the Sunday morning – and should be back home sometime the Sunday afternoon… In theory because the weather’s horrible in the lower North Island and in the South Island at the moment, so I am worried about the flights in and out of Wellington next week 🙁 Though I had heard that the bad weather is moving up the North Island, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to fly out of Auckland and into Wellington without any problems on the Tuesday, and then the other way round on the Sunday again.
I’ve already said that I’m going on this trip because of the WW1 stuff at the Auckland Museum making me want to see the Sir Peter Jackson Anzac displays in Wellington, which admittedly I think will be a lot better than the Auckland ones. Also my friend – the one who has just bought a new house in Wellington – is having her house warming next Saturday evening and I want to be in Wellington for that too.
I’ve also arranged with her to meet up for lunch and/or dinner at least once in the days I will be Wellington, I also have a couple of other old friends I want to meet up with and one of my mother’s cousins lives in Wellington, so I will need to arrange to see her too. It’s going to be interesting to see how Wellington has changed since the last time I was there!
Unfortunately it does look rather shaky for Voat now 🙁 The official announcement on Voat about having their servers closed down but still being up due to having the information transferred to the cloud just in time. The drama thread on Reddit. I guess it’s becoming increasing likely that the people from fat people hate are going to be the cause of Voat being taken down/failing in some way, which is annoying for the rest of us!
In a way it’s a great pity that they’ve been throwing so much money at the guy who started Voat – he said he’s gotten $(US)8,000 just from people from FPH, as it does look like that they’re going to be responsible for the site’s destitution.
The whole drama involving Fat People Hate being being banned from Reddit and heading over to Voat, (among other places), is actually highly amusing. Especially given how much money the people from FPH seem to throwing at Voat in order to get more servers up and running with all of the extra people flooding Voat all of a sudden! (Voat has been posting requests for Bitcoin donations and money via Paypal on their site). I’m just waiting for the point in time that Fat People Hate and Voat fall to pieces – assuming Voat is allowed to exist for that long, as there do seem to be rumors going around that they are being sued by the people/companies who own Reddit.
Though I would find it a lot more amusing if the people from Fat People Hate manage to drive enough money and traffic to Voat to make the site, only to have it become so poplar that they start creating the same problems for themselves again at Voat! (I’m really surprised someone hasn’t decided to take matters into their own hands and start their own completely separate FPH website, I’m not counting fatpeoplehate.com as they were – and still are for some bizarre reason – using the previous fatpeoplehate sub-reddit rather than creating their own 100% independant site).
Now that I think I really, really don’t understand why somebody doesn’t get off their butts and actually do the work needed to create their own FPH only type website? If someone can manage to create the new site to replace imgur for them why not a whole site like Voat to go along with it, that’s solely FPH directed?? The rate things are going for them, Fat People Hate and Voat is going to become:-
Fat People Hate and Voat – you were supposed to be the chosen one.
One way or the other, either they are the cause of Voat going down or it’s success and finding themselves having similar problems on Voat as they are having and had on Reddit. (I guess it is very possible they case off most to all of the non-FPH users from Voat and Voat solely becomes a Fat People Hate echo chamber as a middle ground).
I’ve just realized how little TV of any sort I’ve been watching over the last few weeks. There really hasn’t been much I’ve wanted to see recently and days like yesterday when the weather has actually been really nice has made staying at home watching TV a waste of time. I feel as if I need to go out and take advantage of the good weather before it gets really bad and wintery, making it unpleasant doing stuff outside. I have started watching Orange is the New Black season 3 though and I am rather enjoying it.
It helps that it’s on Netflix so I can watch it whenever I want to, as I’ve stopped watching TV when it’s actually being showed on TV. (Well, expect for the news but even then I only tend to watch the first 15-25 minutes at most when I haven’t gone out). I have been struggling through Daredevil, I like it enough to not give up on it, but I’m definitely not enjoying it nearly as much as other people seem to be. I am also working my way through the second season of Homeland, which is really good.
I think the last time I actually binged watched anything was when season 4 of Wilfred came out on Netflix. A large part of that was being desperate to see the last episode and being sick enough that I couldn’t go out at all. I still think I need to get out and do more things – certainly see more shows and things like that while it’s still relatively nice out.
